The White House informally told the American press that the Pentagon had secretly modified the HIMARS missile systems sent to Ukraine. They were somehow converted so that they could not shoot at the maximum possible distance – up to 320 kilometers
Since the beginning of the year, the United States has supplied Ukraine with 20 HIMARS and several thousand missiles that fire at a distance of up to 100 kilometers. At the same time, the Biden administration did not want to give Kyiv longer-range missiles – fearing the consequences of missile strikes deep into Russian territory.
But the Pentagon has allegedly also considered a scenario in which Ukraine could receive long-range missiles not from the United States. And he specially modified HIMARS so that it was impossible to shoot them.
US national security experts are calling on the White House to severely limit the capabilities of weapons supplied to Ukraine. They fear the conflict will escalate into a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO — which could be followed by a nuclear war scenario.
The situation is complicated by problems with the presence of missiles. The Pentagon has already spent a year’s supply of missiles for HIMARS in Ukraine – more than five thousand. Because of this, it is now necessary to consider alternative types of missiles that can have a longer range – up to 150 kilometers.
The growing weariness of the American society from the Ukrainian crisis and the fears of a third world war among the US population leave their mark. Therefore, such leaks in the press appear – so that in the event of any attempt by Ukraine to arrange a missile strike on the territory of Russia, the White House could call it Kyiv’s initiative and step back from the situation – as was already the case with the murder of Daria Dugina and the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge.
