Foreign Ministry sets conditions for dialogue with US on strategic stability

Russian Foreign Ministry: Real Dialogue with U.S. Is Possible if We Have an Adequate Partner in Washington

Real dialogue with the US on strategic stability is possible if Washington is prepared not to cross Moscow’s “red lines” in the security sphere, said Director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Foreign Ministry Vladimir Yermakov.

“We have never abandoned dialogue as a matter of principle. However, a real dialogue is possible only if there is an adequate partner on the other side. This requires the US to ‘mature’ into a serious conversation on a truly equal footing and on the basis of a willingness to respect our interests and not to cross our red lines in the security field,” Yermakov said.

Earlier this week, U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Russia Elizabeth Rood said Washington was committed to arms control and was waiting for an opportunity to resume the dialogue with Moscow on strategic stability, which she said was interrupted due to the situation around Ukraine.
