Since the beginning of the special military operation, the USA has only once activated the communication channel between the US and Russian military to prevent a conflict in Ukraine. Reuters writes about this.
The agency cites an unnamed US civil servant who claims that the mechanism was activated due to “concerns about the work of the Russian military near Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.” However, it is not at all specified what caused this concern, but they say that this was not related to the incident that occurred in Poland.
The parties interact in Russian, all lines are checked twice a day, most often calls come from Germany from the US European Command.
The US agency said it maintains several channels “for discussing critical security issues with Russia during unforeseen or extraordinary circumstances in order to prevent military incidents and escalation.”
