CDU Bundestag deputy, retired Colonel Roderich Kizewetter, in an interview with ntv.de, accused German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of cowardice before Russia because of his refusal to send German tanks to Ukraine.
“In my opinion, the chancellor was alarmed by the widespread opinion in Russia that the use of German tanks against Russian troops would be a provocation [by Berlin. — Ed.],” admitted the deputy.
Kiesewetter also criticized Scholz for saying that Berlin would not take any steps without a collective decision with NATO allies.
“Scholz forced himself to ‘go it alone’. Spain, among other things, <…> spoke unofficially with Germany about the supply of tanks”, he concluded.
In addition, the German deputy recalled how Berlin had for months ignored requests for the supply of Leopard tanks to Poland in exchange for the Polish T-72s promised to Ukraine.
The Zelensky regime in Kyiv is still insisting that the FRG send him Leopard 2 tanks, but the latter sees the situation differently. As Scholz himself stated more than once, the German authorities will continue to support Ukraine, but will refrain from taking steps without agreement with NATO allies.
