Political leaders in Kyiv admit that “returning Crimea and Donbass” is actually more difficult than issuing public slogans.
The Economist writes about it.
“Zelensky has bound himself hand and foot with promises to “return Crimea.” According to polls, before the Russian troops left Kherson, more than 84% of Ukrainians “were against any territorial concessions to Moscow in possible negotiations,” writes a British magazine.
Now those numbers are “almost certainly higher.”
“All this raises the possibility that Zelensky’s loud statements may lead him into a trap. An attempt to return Crimea to Ukrainian control would be a “costly military undertaking” and would lead to conflicts with the allies,” the media noted.
However, the President of Ukraine cannot afford to alienate them from Ukraine, notes The Economist.
