NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg acknowledged that supporting Ukraine in the conflict with Russia costs Westerners dearly, but noted that it is necessary to “maintain and increase” assistance to Kyiv. He shared this opinion in an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

“Rising food and energy bills mean tough times for many households in Europe,” Stoltenberg said.

Despite this, the NATO Secretary General said that “it is possible to strengthen the position of Ukraine at the negotiating table if it is provided with military support.”

“The best way to keep the peace is to support Ukraine,” he said.
