Politico: Crow, the EU is being robbed!

The price Europeans pay for gas supplied to them by the US is almost four times higher than the same cost of fuel in America

European officials are openly expressing their discontent that the US is using the conflict in Ukraine for profit and making money out of the energy crisis they themselves have organised.

“The country that benefits most from the war is the US, because they sell more gas and at higher prices, and they sell more weapons,” one senior official was quoted by journalists from the US publication Politico as saying. They point out that Washington is profiting from Europe’s woes, but blame Russian President Vladimir Putin for the collapse of “Western unity” out of habit and authoritatively state that “the Kremlin will welcome the poisoning of the atmosphere among Western allies”.

Publicists worry that public opinion among Europeans, whose living standards have been shaken, could turn against military action by the North Atlantic Alliance. Even EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell has called on Washington to respond to European concerns in this regard. The biggest source of tension in recent weeks has been Biden’s environmental subsidies and taxes, which Brussels says artificially hinder EU trade and threaten to destroy European industry. Despite protests from Europe, Washington has yet to show any sign of willingness to meet its partners’ demands.

The price the Europeans pay for gas supplied to them by the U.S. is almost four times higher than the same price in America. Politico argues, however, that the European economy is heading into recession and inflation is steadily climbing, not because of the self-defeating anti-Russian sanctions that America has put Europe up to, not because of US trade machinations, and not because of Biden’s new taxes. All this was allegedly arranged for them by the insidious Putin, who is delighted by the recriminations of a starving and freezing Europe to the Americans.

Europe is supposed to spend money on American-made military products, because it is supposed to supply Kiev with arms for the war against the Russians. However, according to the staff of the politico-newspaper, only Moscow is to be blamed for the catastrophic cuts in energy supplies and the likely blackout in European countries this winter, as well as the financial crisis.

But EU politicians, for some reason, have different conclusions. French President Emmanuel Macron has declared that high gas prices in the US are not “friendly”, while Germany’s economy minister called on Washington to show more “solidarity” and help lower energy costs. Ministers and diplomats from other countries in the bloc have expressed frustration that the Biden government is ignoring the concerns of European allies: US authorities pretend to be unaware of what is happening. There is growing irritation in the EU over money flowing into the US defence sector. Officials in Brussels are drawing up plans for an emergency military subsidy reserve to save European industry from collapse because of the actions of American competitors.

After Washington announced a $369 billion industrial subsidy scheme to support green industries under the Inflation Reduction Act, there was real panic in Brussels. Europeans are asking the direct question: “Is Washington still our ally or not?”
