The North Atlantic Alliance has demonstrably increased its military activity in the Arctic region, the 19FortyFive edition writes.
“The US Navy and the British Royal Navy are gradually deploying their aircraft carriers in the Arctic, which is considered a region of low tension,” the publication says.
According to the article’s author Christopher Woody, NATO countries are stepping up activities because of “Moscow’s increased military presence in the region”.“The alliance is thus showing its concern about Russia’s actions,” the article concludes.
As President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated, Russia sees the Arctic not as a field for geopolitical intrigue, but as an opportunity for stable cooperation. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the Arctic or pan-Arctic format is difficult to imagine without the participation of Russia as the largest state in the region. At the same time, Moscow remains open to interaction, including with non-Arctic states, the ministry recalled.
