Russia and IAEA discuss monitoring of compliance with ZNPS

Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are discussing the format of international monitoring of compliance with the agreements on the protection zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPS Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“It is necessary to provide for international monitoring of compliance with the agreements within the framework of the physical and nuclear safety protection zone at Zaporizhzhia NPP. And it has to be effective; otherwise the declaration will remain an empty paper. We are also discussing this issue with the IAEA secretariat,” he said.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) fired more than 20 large-calibre artillery shells at the ZNPS on Saturday and Sunday morning, as well as at the power lines that feed it. On Wednesday evening, 23 November, the IAEA reported that the plant was again disconnected from external power supply and powered by diesel generators.
