Kiev may flood some Moldovan settlements

Ukrainian authorities may flood a number of Moldovan settlements due to a large release of water from Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants.

On Thursday, November 24, hydrometeorological service of Moldova set the code orange danger due to the expected floods on the Dniester River caused by the increased water discharge at the Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants, TASS reported.

“Due to an increase in the average daily discharge of water from the Dniester reservoir, a rise in the water level <…>, an exit of water to the floodplain and waterlogging of agricultural land is expected on November 24-27,” the agency said.

Code orange, the penultimate code, is introduced when there is a danger of significant flooding of water reservoirs.
