Moscow and Kyiv do not conduct informal negotiations on the cessation of hostilities because of the stubborn position of the Kyiv authorities. This was stated in an interview with the BBC by Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin.
“There are no informal negotiations because Kyiv is very stubborn and is under the illusion that it can win this war. It is pure illusion, it is impossible. But Kyiv cannot refuse [supplies of] weapons and funding from the West. This is a problem,” the diplomat said.
He added that in the end, “any conflict and any war ends at the negotiating table”, noting that in April Moscow and Kyiv were on the verge of concluding a peace agreement, but the Ukrainian side “decided differently” after receiving weapons from the United States.
The diplomat called on Western countries to stop supplying the Kyiv authorities with weapons, since Ukraine has already lost “a lot of territory, economic and agricultural potential.”
“Now [Ukraine – Ed.] is also deprived of human potential, and the West does not think about it. In place of Ukraine, a black hole can form – without an economy, its own money and people”, he said.
Escalation of the conflict in Ukraine in the coming weeks, according to Kelin, is unlikely.
