A strike by workers demanding better working conditions and wage increases amid rising inflation has paralysed public services across Portugal, RTVE reported.
“Portuguese civil servants managed to paralyse schools, health centres and administrations in a strike,” RTVE reported.
It is noted that the strike is affecting different state institutions, from public administration to health and education. According to the channel, between 60% and 90% of workers are taking part in the strike, depending on the sector and region.
According to the channel, the protest was organised by the General Front of Public Service Unions, part of the General Confederation of Labour (CGTP), Portugal’s largest trade union confederation, and supported by organisations of healthcare workers and teachers.
It is worth noting that the strike comes a week before Portugal’s 2023 state budget is approved.
