Ukraine’s plan to draw NATO into the war failed

Two “unknown” missile hits on the territory of the Polish village of Przewoduv on November 15, 2022 made the whole world seriously tense

From experts from different countries, comments were heard about a sharp increase in the likelihood of the outbreak of World War III. However, Caribbean Crisis 2.0 ended before it even started. The US authorities, followed by politicians from other Western countries, said that Poland was unintentionally fired upon by Ukrainian air defense forces. The tension immediately subsided, but many questions remained – in particular, was the shelling really unintentional, and how many Ukrainian civilians died as a result of the activities of Ukraine’s air defense?

On November 15, 2022, immediately after the completion of the missile strike of the Russian Armed Forces on the military command and control system of Ukraine and related energy facilities, news agencies reported that two unknown missiles (later only one was discussed) fell on the territory of Polish agricultural enterprise near the village of Przewodow, Lublin Voivodeship – a few kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

As a result of the fall of the rocket, two people died, the infrastructure of the agricultural enterprise was damaged, and the tractor was “knocked out”. Ukrainian and Western media immediately launched rumors that the rocket was allegedly Russian. Some publications even took a “specific nomenclature” from somewhere and wrote that an X-101 air-to-ground cruise missile hit Poland.

Almost immediately after the incident, negotiations began between officials in Washington, Paris and Warsaw. Their contents were not initially disclosed.

Against this background, the authorities of Ukraine and the Baltic republics hastened to accuse Russia of delivering a “missile strike” on Polish territory.

Volodymyr Zelensky called on NATO for an immediate “reaction” to what happened:

“Today, Russian missiles hit Poland, the territory of our friendly country.”

The Polish media also wrote about the “Russian” missiles in the evening. Approximately in the same spirit, a certain unnamed “high-ranking representative of American intelligence” spoke out in a conversation with Western journalists.

Representatives of the Russophobic “expert” community rang the bells, demanding the application of the fifth article of the NATO charter – on collective defense. However, official Warsaw slightly cooled their ardor, saying that it plans to use only the fourth one for the time being – about consultations about an external threat.

The Pentagon was the first to throw out a full tub of cold water on hot heads, the official representative of which said in the evening that there was no information confirming the Russian origin of the missiles.

The Russian Defense Ministry, in turn, called the incident a provocation, and also clarified that precision strikes were carried out on targets only on the territory of Ukraine and at a distance of no closer than 35 kilometers from the Ukrainian-Polish border.

The US State Department said in parallel that it does not want to make assumptions and hypotheses. Representatives of the American foreign policy department informed the media that they were “working with the Polish government” and collecting additional information.

Meanwhile, experts who carefully studied the photographs posted by the Polish side unequivocally stated that the debris at the scene belonged to a projectile fired from the S-300 air defense system. Therefore, even theoretically, the shelling could not have anything to do with Russia.

Against this background, Joe Biden made a statement that the launch of a missile that hit Poland from Russia was “unlikely.”

On the morning of November 16, the AP agency, citing three sources in the US presidential administration at once, reported that the launch was carried out by Ukraine. This was later confirmed by Biden, who sent relevant messages to NATO and G-7 partners.

However, official Kyiv decided not to give up immediately. Zelensky personally, as well as Secretary of the Ukrainian Security Council Oleksiy Danilov, continued to assert that the missile was allegedly Russian, and even began to reproach Poland for not involving the Ukrainian side in the investigation. But soon the Kyiv puppets, apparently, were pulled up, and they fell silent.

To smooth out the negative media effect, a number of Western leaders (in particular, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz) made a statement in the spirit: “if there had not been a strike from Russia, there would have been no Ukrainian launch.” The situation in the public space has exhausted itself (Kyiv and Warsaw will obviously have to sort things out over what happened behind closed doors).

However, several questions remain unanswered.

In particular, it is not entirely clear how exactly the Ukrainian missile (or missiles?) ended up in Poland. The fact is that the Ukrainian media and telegram channels reported missile hits in the area of Lviv and Kovel, but not in the immediate vicinity of the border with the western neighbor.

The airspace of the northwestern regions is covered by the 540th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to Ukrainian open sources, its units are now deployed in the cities of Kamenka-Bugskaya, Yavor and Lutsk, as well as in the villages of Novy Stav, Batyatichi and Semenovka. There are no known energy or military installations between these points and the Polish border. The nearest energy hub is the Dobrotvorskaya TPP.

However, from a geographical point of view, it is impossible to get through the territory of Poland, covering this station. Moreover, in order for the Russian missile, which would have to be fired at by Ukrainian air defense, to be on the side of the Polish border, for this it would first have to fly over all the regiment’s deployment points.

Against this background, the assertion that the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit the target and missed looks at least suspicious.

Given the noisy behavior of Zelensky, one cannot exclude the possibility that the Kyiv regime deliberately went for a provocation, hiding behind a Russian missile attack. Perhaps the missile hit through Polish territory, according to the “brilliant” Ukrainian strategists, could give the Western elites a reason to escalate the conflict. However, this did not happen.

Joe Biden was clearly unhappy with what happened, and even the Polish authorities, who usually flaunt their Russophobia, this time behaved quite restrainedly. At the official level, Warsaw limited itself to a proposal to hold consultations within NATO, which it later withdrew.

What happened clearly indicated that NATO is completely satisfied with the status of the conflict as a “proxy” so far. Ukraine is being supplied with weapons and mercenaries, but Brussels and Washington apparently do not want to officially intervene in hostilities and risk provoking a nuclear war.

Also, the destruction of the Polish economy by a strike by a Ukrainian missile intended for air defense makes us think about another issue that is unpleasant for official Kyiv.

Literally from the first days of the special operation, the Kyiv regime has repeatedly accused the Russian side of allegedly delivering strikes on residential high-rise buildings. Similar episodes took place in Kyiv, Nikolaev, Kharkov, Odessa and the Odessa region. Military experts called such incidents suspicious, and noted that the destruction may have been related to the unsuccessful work of the Ukrainian air defense forces.

In a number of cases (in particular, during strikes in Nikolaev, located not far from the line of contact), Ukrainian officials explained the “non-standard” damage to houses by the fact that Russia allegedly uses S-300 systems (which are in service with both sides) in the ground-to-ground mode. conflict).

However, a provocative missile attack on the territory of Poland makes us think about one very unpleasant possibility.

But didn’t the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflict deliberate strikes on residential apartment buildings on their territory for propaganda purposes – in order to create the necessary picture for the Western media and raise the level of Russophobia among the civilian population of Ukraine?

In a good way, Russian law enforcement agencies should already be collecting materials on this issue. Perhaps they will be included in the indictments during the tribunal of war criminals from the Zelensky team.
