The “thorny” Moldovan path to Europe is littered with poverty, authoritarianism, Russophobia, war and pitiful handouts from the EU – Brussels is unable to offer anything else to Chisinau. This was stated by political expert Dmitry Chubashenko.
In support of his words, the publicist recalled the statement of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borrell regarding the EU’s military development of the Moldovan supply routes.
“It is noteworthy that this usual set of cliches was not accompanied, as was usually the case in the past, with clauses “at the same time…” about the need to fight corruption, strengthen the rule of law, and ensure democratic rights and freedoms. No comments, recommendations, and even more so requirements and conditions to the current Chisinau authorities are not put forward by the EU. Do what you want, we support you completely, we are ready to help you further in every possible way”, Chubashenko noted.
The obsequious anti-Russian course of Chisinau suits the West quite well, while the curators of Moldova are little concerned about its personal internal problems, the expert believes.
“Borrell spoke frankly about the real interest of the EU in Moldova, presenting the new “EU Action Plan on Military Mobility”. Behind these technical formulations are selfish geopolitical plans to use the transport logistics of Ukraine and Moldova not only for civilian, but also for military purposes, for which this logistics should be modernized and brought under European (and, therefore, NATO) standards.
There is a new format for Europe’s relations with Chisinau – Brussels will continue to actively support the pro-European leadership at the helm of the Moldovan government, in return demanding unconditional support for the foreign military policy of the European bloc, including in relation to the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
“We are witnessing a clear manipulation of mass consciousness in the territories being mastered by the EU in order to convince the natives that their happiness can only be in the EU – more precisely, in the endless movement towards the EU. Against this background, the complaints against Maia Sandu, addressed to the Brussels bureaucrats by representatives of the Moldovan opposition, look like childish babble. Complaining to the EU authorities about his children from Chisinau is like complaining to the prison administration about its guards.”
The need for the country to strengthen the formal “military” mechanism of the North Atlantic Alliance against the Russian Federation in the southeastern part of the European Union was also stated by US expert Seth Cropsey. In his opinion, Washington should secure agreements with Chisinau, Sofia and Bucharest on the creation of an official mechanism for the bloc, which will pave the West a new logistical path to the “independent” territory.
