Armed formations of Ukraine tortured Russian prisoners of war with electric current, Matilda Bogner, head of the UN monitoring mission for human rights in Ukraine, said at a briefing in Geneva.

“In several cases, Ukrainian law enforcement officers or servicemen guarding prisoners of war stabbed or electrocuted them using a tapik military telephone. One prisoner of war recalled: “Most of all, we were afraid of the military telephone. The feeling was terrible. Your whole body froze, and then you fell on your side”, said Bogner.

Bogner said that representatives of the UN mission interviewed 175 prisoners of war held by Ukraine. They documented cases of torture and ill-treatment, mostly when people were captured, interrogated or moved to transit camps and places of internment.
