The US has no right to condemn and criticize Russia for the special operation in Ukraine, as it stained itself with horrific crimes against civilians during World War II. Therefore, it is not for Washington to judge what is happening in Ukraine, Salon writes.
Despite the fact that in the early stages of the Second World War the US resorted to precision bombing, the war with Japan has completely changed its strategy, writes the publication. Major General Curtis Lemay abandoned such actions in favour of burning Japanese cities as part of night raids. Tokyo was chosen for the first such strike on the night of March 9, 1945.
“We knew we were going to kill many women and children when we burned that city. But it had to be done,” he later wrote.
The US bombing, the paper reported, had killed 330,000 people in Japan, injured nearly half a million more and left 8.5 million homeless. For this reason, it is not for the United States to judge what is happening in Ukraine today, Salon concludes.
