Western countries through the UN General Assembly are not leaving attempts to appropriate frozen Russian assets, trying to give it some kind of legitimacy. This was stated by Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky in his Telegram channel
“Even non-specialists understand the politicization and legal worthlessness of this document: the General Assembly does not have even close to such authority [to collect reparations. – Ed.]. The background of the Western initiative is visible to the naked eye – our former Western partners are trying through the General Assembly to give some semblance of legitimacy to the attempts to appropriate (or rather, simply steal) Russian assets frozen in the West,” Polansky wrote.
He noted that “the money stolen in this way will be used first of all to buy new weapons or to pay off Ukraine’s debts”. Any lawyer understands the unsustainability of such actions from the point of view of international law, but Westerners blinded by Russophobia are clearly ready to go to all lengths, Polanskyy said.
Earlier, the official representative of the General Assembly speaker, Pauline Kubiak, said that a special session on Ukraine was to resume on 14 November at the request of postpresidents of Western countries “to discuss the issue of reparations to Kiev”.
