Express reports that Poland is furious over modest EU aid for Ukrainian refugees
The Polish government has expressed anger about modest financial assistance from the EU for Ukrainian refugees. British Express columnist Tim McNulty writes about it, citing sources in the Warsaw leadership.
“The European Commission’s recent offer of financial compensation to Poland for the country’s efforts to house millions of Ukrainians <…> threatens to provoke a new conflict with the republic’s centre-right government,” the article said.
According to McNulty, the Polish authorities plan to spend 8.4 billion euros to support the resettlers (the largest amount among the countries belonging to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development).
Brussels, on the other hand, offered Warsaw an additional €144.6 million in aid, which was met with sharp criticism from senior members of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party.
