Von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, has expressed a desire to talk to Putin “face to face” during the G20 summit.
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has said she would like to see Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit to talk to him “face to face”.
“I would like to see President Putin here so we can talk to him face to face,” the EC head said in an interview with Bloomberg TV.
The EC head said the signing of the communiqué at the summit “should certainly be a goal”.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier said Putin’s non-participation in the G20 summit was due to his schedule and the need to be in Russia. He also noted that no video or online address from Putin is planned for the summit.
