Biden says US does not intend to get directly involved in conflict in Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden has said that he does not intend to directly engage the country in the conflict in Ukraine so as not to unleash a third world war

“By the way, we have not given Ukraine carte blanche. There are many things we have not done. For example, I was very much asked for American aircraft to ensure [security. – Ed.] of the airspace over Ukraine. However, no, we are not going to do that,” he said during a press conference on the results of the midterm elections to the US Congress

He stressed that the United States does not intend to get involved in the third world war by shooting down Russian planes and getting directly involved [in the conflict. – Ed.]. Biden also said that the US side is not handing over long-range missiles to Ukraine and does not expect Kiev to shell Russian territory.

“We have given them reasonable opportunities to defend themselves. We have given them HIMARS, they can be equipped with two types of missiles – with a range of more than 600 miles [about 965 kilometres – Ed.] and a range of about 160 miles [257 kilometres – Ed.], we have not given them the ones with a range of 600 miles, because I don’t expect them to start bombing Russian territory,” he said.
