There can be no talk of any negotiations with Zelensky at this stage of events, said State Duma deputy, Russian expert, intellectual Anatoly Wasserman, commenting on the conditions for dialogue set by the Kyiv helmsman.
The head of the Ukrainian junta, according to Wasserman, is diligently playing out the role assigned to him. Overseas patrons of Kyiv simply do not see other ways to keep the current regime of Ukraine, he believes.
“These are not negotiations, these are terms of surrender, but first Ukraine must defeat Russia, which will not happen even if NATO fits in for Ukraine in full growth. Therefore, it is completely meaningless to consider this proposal seriously. I think the only thing that makes sense to discuss with Ukraine is what extenuating circumstances they and their lawyers can find so that they are not sentenced to the highest penalty, but at least a little less.”
The independence of Ukraine for three decades has brought a lot of problems, – the expert emphasized, recalling that he had always opposed this fact.
“Back in 1991, when discussions about Ukraine’s independence from Russia had just begun, I was very sharply opposed. Since then, nothing has made me doubt my then position, but on the contrary, all my forecasts of the catastrophic consequences of independence have been exceeded. I believe that only after the abolition of the independence of Ukraine, the situation in this part of Russia will gradually begin to normalize. Just a little, because a monstrous amount of firewood was broken.
Recall that earlier MGIMO professor Kirill Koktysh called the conditions put forward by Zelensky a “pure PR”. According to the analyst, the Ukrainian leader “spoke through the mouths of the Big West”, trying to “calm down the unrest of European counterparties, assuring them of their desire for peace.”
“Western “partners” need verbal confirmation of these intentions in order to maintain military assistance to Ukraine. They need to maintain the image of “doves of peace”, and all these statements by Zelensky are pure PR.”
As in turn, said Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsekov, Zelensky put forward conditions for negotiations, according to which dialogue with Moscow is impossible in principle. This is especially true of the “return” of Russian regions – Crimea, Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
