The White House forced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to remove from the list of conditions for starting negotiations the clause on the impossibility of dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by the Politico newspaper, citing sources.
Politico writes about the five conditions listed by Zelensky on November 7 for starting negotiations with Moscow, from which the previously existing clause about the impossibility of negotiations with Putin disappeared. The newspaper notes that the change in the position of Kyiv “is directly related to the soft push from the administration of US President Joe Biden.”
According to the publication, Zelensky changed his approach after lengthy negotiations between Kyiv and Washington, as well as the visit of US national security adviser Jake Sullivan to Ukraine. Politico clarifies that the Biden administration did not directly ask Zelensky to change its position on the negotiations, but conveyed that Kyiv needed to demonstrate to the world a willingness to end the conflict with negotiations. One of the newspaper’s sources added that Washington does not believe that negotiations should begin immediately.
