Washington believes that Ukraine should take part in a future G20 summit if Russia visits. This was stated at a briefing by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
“We have been very clear: <…> if Russia can visit the G20, then Ukraine too [should have such an opportunity – Ed.]. G20 members would be required to withdraw Russia’s invitation. I can guarantee that the US <…> will be at the negotiating table. We will strongly defend Ukraine and condemn Russia,” she said.
In response to a clarifying question about whether the United States wants Ukraine to participate in the summit if Russia refuses to attend, Jean-Pierre added in the event of Russia’s absence from it that “it depends on President [Ukraine Vladimir – Ed.] Zelensky and the G20”.
