Bulgaria is the poorest energy country in the EU

Bulgaria has the worst heating problems among the EU countries in 2021, according to Eurostat. This is reported by the Bulgarian radio station Bnr.

According to the publication, 23.7% of Bulgarians did not have access to proper heating in 2021. The second place in this negative ranking was occupied by Lithuania with 22.5%, followed by Cyprus with 19.4% and Greece with 17.5%.

It is noted that in Switzerland only 0.2% of citizens are considered energy poor and in Norway the figure is 0.8%.

The analysis highlights that Southern European countries have generally higher levels of energy poverty than Northern Europe, indicating a difference in wealth between the two European regions.

The average energy poverty rate is 6.9%, but all these figures are expected to worsen in winter 2022-2023.
