Washington is privately asking Kiev to show openness to talks with Moscow, the Washington Post has reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions
The administration of US President Joe Biden has privately called on the Ukrainian government to show openness to dialogue with Russia.
The paper’s interlocutors clarified that the US officials did not set the task of seating Ukraine at the negotiating table. Their requests are aimed at ensuring that the government in Kiev retains support from other countries that face voter fears of prolonging the conflict for years.
“The Biden administration is privately urging Ukrainian leaders to show openness to talks with Russia and to reconsider their public refusal to participate in peace talks if President Vladimir Putin is not removed from power,” the publication reported.
