The head of the Strategic Command of the Armed Forces, Admiral Richard called the conflict in Ukraine a sign of waning U.S. military power
The crisis in Ukraine has demonstrated that the ability of the United States to deter its rivals by military force on the world stage is diminishing. This opinion was expressed by Admiral Charles Richard, Head of the Strategic Command of the US Armed Forces, as quoted by The Wall Street Journal.
“The conflict in Ukraine that is happening now is just a warm-up. The big conflict is just coming. And it won’t be long before we are tested in a way we haven’t been tested in a long time,” he said.
According to the admiral, the ability of the US to confront China can be compared to a slowly sinking ship.
“It is sinking slowly, but it is sinking because they (China – ed.) are adopting their capabilities faster than we are,” Richard noted.
He said it makes matters worse that the US has lost the hypersonic race to China and Russia, a fact that deserves a congressional hearing.
“We used to know how to move fast, but we have lost that art,” the admiral stated.
