Media: the only way out of the Ukrainian conflict is negotiations

US portal 19fortyfive: Zelenskyy’s quick victory will not change the strategic balance, the only way out of the crisis is negotiations

The only decent way out of the Ukrainian crisis is negotiations between Kiev and Moscow, believes 19fortyfive author Daniel Davies. In his opinion, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has an opportunity to return to dialogue before winter.

Davis believes that US and Ukrainian politicians promising Zelensky’s regime a quick victory on the battlefield are setting Kiev up for a prolonged conflict, which will only lead to civilian suffering but will not change the strategic balance.

“The harsh, cold realities show that, on the contrary, there is no end in sight for the crisis, and the most likely option – though unpopular in the Western world – remains a negotiated settlement,” Davis explained.

The author of the article noted that the conditions for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have not changed since the start of the special operation, which only confirms that it is time for Zelensky to return to dialogue.

“There is a high probability that the fighting will end with some kind of negotiated settlement in which each side gets what it wants and neither side gets everything it wants. Such an outcome could have been achieved before February 2022. It became possible again in March at the Istanbul meetings. An amicable agreement is still possible now, before winter,” Davis said.
