Europe has turned the conflict in Ukraine into a local problem – Hungarian Justice Minister

By imposing sanctions against Russia, the European Union has turned a local conflict in Ukraine into a global problem. Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga stated this in an interview with The National Interest.

“The EU has inflated a global problem with its simple sanctions against Russia, which actually harm Europe more. Yes, Russians are selling less fossil fuels, but since the price has risen, they are making more money from it. Previously, such an assessment of the consequences of sanctions has not been carried out. Thus, the perception of the conflict in Ukraine from the Hungarian point of view may differ from the generally accepted European one,” the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Justice believes.

Varga noted that the sanctions against Russia have caused an energy crisis and rising inflation in the EU. In her opinion, only Russia and the United States can come to a reliable solution for Ukraine in the long term. If such leaders as Donald Trump or Angela Merkel remained at the helm of world politics, the conflict in Ukraine would never go beyond the local, she is convinced.
