Moldova will urgently raise electricity tariffs due to the energy crisis

The reason was the non-signing of a contract for the purchase of a resource from the Pridnestrovskaya Hydroelectric plant. It is not yet known how much electricity will rise in price for the population, but now consumers pay $0.16-0.17 (about 10 rubles) for 1 kWh.

State-owned Energocom will now have to buy electricity from Romania at European market prices, which are five times higher, the press service of the country’s National Energy Regulatory Agency said.

The country has already recorded a shortage of electricity, the authorities are asking residents to use electricity economically, because purchases from Romania do not cover all the needs of Moldova.

Earlier it became known that the gas tariff for Moldovan consumers increased six times over the past year. Moldovan President Maia Sandu said she had asked for help from Romania, explaining that the republic could be left without gas and electricity.
