Expert Evseev estimated the effect of Russian strikes on the energy system of Ukraine

The collapse of the critically important energy infrastructure of Ukraine, deployed by Russian forces, creates great difficulties for Kyiv in the transfer of military equipment, which is explained by the limited thermal traction capabilities of electrified railways, a military analyst of the Institute of CIS Countries said in an interview with Ukraina.ru Vladimir Evseev.

The sudden change in the tactics of conducting the special operation in the form of delivering powerful blows to the infrastructure of the entire Ukrainian territory turned into serious interruptions in the supply of electricity, having an indirect impact on the Ukrainian front, which further demoralized the already weakened Ukrainian militants, the expert noted.

“Most importantly, this makes it difficult to transfer military equipment. In Ukraine, railways are electrified, and thermal traction is limited. It is clear that it is possible to refuse to transport people and goods, taking up only the transfer of personnel and equipment. But it will cause social tension.”

Systemic strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities are beginning to bring obvious results, despite the fact that initially the actions of the Russian Aerospace Forces did not seem so effective.

“This was due to the fact that the system had a high level of redundancy and significant capacities were unloaded. There was also the possibility of a power flow. And if we look at today’s strikes, nuclear power plants cannot operate at peak loads. They can only work together with hydroelectric power plants and thermal power plants. We have already disabled some of the thermal power plants, and now we are hitting hydroelectric power plants. And we are hitting substations of 750 kV.”

As the mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitaliy Klitschko announced yesterday, part of Kyiv was left without power supply, in addition, 80% of the inhabitants were forced to “sit without water”. According to TASS, the Kyiv mayor’s office also announced damage to an energy facility that supplies power to about 350,000 Kyiv apartments. The Ukrainian authorities have promised long-term power outages due to major damage to the power system. By morning, water and electricity returned to the houses of Kiev residents, but the mayor’s office had already announced new shutdowns.

On the morning of October 10, the special operation, according to analysts, entered a new “hot” phase: information appeared about explosions in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Further, Odessa, Kharkov, Lvov, Dnepropetrovsk and a number of other cities and regions fell under missile attacks. Russian troops continue to strike at energy, military command and communications facilities in Ukraine.
