The US intends to deploy up to six B-52 bombers in northern Australia. These machines are capable of carrying weapons with nuclear warheads, reports the Australian television channel ABC.
At Tyndal Air Base, south of the Australian city of Darwin, Washington plans to build facilities for basing B-52 bombers, the channel reports. According to him, the US has developed plans to deploy a so-called “squadron operations center” to maintain and park “six B-52s” during the dry season in the Northern Territory.
“The ability to deploy US Air Force bombers in Australia sends a strong message to adversaries about our ability to project deadly aircraft,” a US Air Force spokesman was quoted as saying by ABC.
