Media: Japan will continue to participate in the Sakhalin-1 project

Japan will continue to participate in the Sakhalin-1 project, as it needs stable energy supplies, the Nikkei newspaper reports.

The Japanese government has decided to continue participating in the Russian Sakhalin-1 oil and gas project, formerly led by Exxon, the Nikkei has learned, as Japan wants to secure stable energy supplies despite international sanctions imposed on Moscow.

Recall that now 95% of Japanese oil imports come from the Middle East, so Japan considers participation in Russian projects necessary to maintain the stability of supplies.
