Lavrov: We are ready to talk to the West on reducing tensions, but only if there are realistic proposals

Russia’s foreign minister has said the country is ready for a dialogue with the West if there are appeals with realistic proposals based on the principles of equality and mutual respect of interests

Russia is ready to talk to the West on reducing tension, but only if there are realistic proposals based on equitable approaches, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

“We are always ready to listen to our Western colleagues if they make another request to arrange a conversation. I hope they will be able to offer us some serious approaches in addition to reproducing in their contacts through diplomatic departments and other channels what they say publicly in their propaganda enthusiasm, which would help to defuse tension and fully take into account the interests of the Russian Federation and its security,” he said in an interview for the film “A World on the Verge. Lessons from the Caribbean Crisis”, aired on Channel One.

“If we are approached with realistic proposals based on the principles of equality and mutual respect of interests, aimed at finding compromises and balancing the interests of all countries in this region, we will not be left behind, as we always were in the past,” Lavrov stressed.
