Anti-government rallies in the Czech Republic

In the Czech capital for the third time there was a rally demanding the resignation of the government, a change of course in relation to Ukraine and lower gas prices

An anti-government demonstration called “Nonviolent Revolution – Czech Republic First” was held on Wenceslas Square in central Prague, with demonstrators demanding the resignation of the government and speaking out against inflation, falling living standards, rising fuel prices and military support for Ukraine, iRozhlas reported.

Czech police reported several tens of thousands of protesters gathered, with former government head Jiri Paroubek (who led the cabinet from April 2005 to August 2006) accusing the law enforcement agency of underestimating the number of protesters.

“We are only at the beginning of a serious crisis. We can all rightly fear that there will be no gas. I am afraid that because of the gambling energy policy of the government of Petr Fiala and Brussels, hundreds of Czech companies will go bankrupt and hundreds of thousands of people will sooner or later find themselves on the pavement,” the former prime minister said, calling the current cabinet presumptuous and anti-national.

The people had slogans on their placards such as “we do not want a government of national destruction”, “the war is idiotic like the government” and “stop the price rise”.

It is noted that the speakers on the platform accused the government of supporting the fighting in Ukraine by supplying Kiev with weapons, thus not protecting the interests of the Czech Republic.
