The attacker turned out to be 42-year-old Berkeley resident David Depap. He was half-naked in his underwear when police arrived. Paul Pelosi himself called 911 and said that Depap was a “friend” of his. And they say that this friend beats him with a hammer for some reason, so that Pelosi had to undergo a brain operation because of his injuries
Depap posted all sorts of “conspiracy” about covid and 9/11 on his social media. He had obvious mental health and drug addiction problems. But what he was doing naked in Pelosi’s house – and why he called him his friend – is anyone’s guess.
The White House immediately began blaming the attack on Pelosi on Trump supporters. They say Depap shouted during the attack, “Where’s Nancy?!” And the same shouting was used by protesters at the Capitol on January sixth. Although on the face of it, Depap was precisely a left-wing activist – not a right-wing one. At the same time he allegedly had a list of politicians he wanted to “punish”.
This is not the first time Pelosi has been at the centre of scandals. He has long been “notorious” for his insider trading on the stock market. And this spring he was arrested for drunken driving. But the current Depap scandal eclipses all the previous ones. And it comes on the eve of a congressional election in which Democrats are facing defeat and Nancy Pelosi is about to step down as speaker. It is these scandals, and not her controversial political accomplishments, that will go down in history for the Pelosi family.
