US leaves Zelensky right to start talks with Russia – White House

The United States leaves it up to Vladimir Zelensky to decide whether to open peace talks on his terms with Russia and sees no readiness for such a dialogue on the part of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This RIA Novosti said the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, John Kirby.

“As we said from the very beginning, there is nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. If and when it comes to peace talks, this will and must be the decision of President Zelensky. And on his terms. He is the president of Ukraine, a sovereign country. This is a sovereign state, no matter how much Mr. Putin may not like it”, Kirby answered the agency’s question.

At the same time, Kirby indicated that the United States does not trust Putin’s public statements, noting that all the actions of the Russian president indicate an interest in continuing hostilities.

Recall that at a speech during the plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club, Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was ready to sit down at the negotiating table with Kyiv, but the United States should signal this to the Ukrainian authorities.
