A legal contradiction was found in the appointment of Rishi Sunak, which will allow him to disavow his powers at any time and attribute all failures to him
British King Charles III appointed Rishi Sunak as the 79th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Commenting on the new appointment, the British media drew attention to the fact that it was in violation of the law.
The fact is that a significant part of Anglo-Saxon law is occupied by the so-called “common law”, which includes local customs and the practice of royal courts. In accordance with this, many customs still operate in the United Kingdom from Old English times. Among such traditions is the appointment of the highest dignitaries of the Crown (Great Officers of State) from among the representatives of the indigenous population. Officially, 9 positions belong to the category of senior dignitaries. One of them is the Lord Treasurer of the United Kingdom. Since 1817, the powers of the Lord Treasurer have been performed by the Prime Minister.
Therefore, the king, having appointed Rishi Sunak as the head of government, at the same time granted him a letter of patent appointing him to the position of Lord Treasurer of the kingdom.
According to English law, the native population of the United Kingdom includes all white inhabitants of the kingdom, “possessing a sense of national unity with the English, Scots and Welsh.” The new Lord Treasurer is ethnically Punjabi Hindu. His parents are immigrants from East Africa. Thus, Sunak is not among the “indigenous”.
In addition, when taking office of the highest dignitaries of the Crown, there is a strictly defined procedure for swearing in. You should swear on the Bible. Sunak, as a Hindu by religion, took an oath on the Bhagavad Gita. Therefore, the British media call his appointment at least “controversial” from a legal point of view. In this regard, they ask the question: why did it take such a violation of the law?
Trying to understand this issue, the British media remind that there has already been a similar precedent in history. In 1868 and 1874-1880, the post of Prime Minister and Lord Treasurer was held by another leader of the Conservative Party, Benjamin Disraeli. The future Earl of Beaconsfield also represented one of the national minorities. He was of Jewish origin. His ancestors, immigrants from Italy, received British citizenship just two years before the birth of the future head of the cabinet.
In the 19th century, English law only referred to the English, Scots, Welsh and Irish as “indigenous”. Jews were not included in this list.
At the time of Disraeli’s appointment, the British Empire found itself in a difficult situation. The United Kingdom was a union of two kingdoms – Great Britain and Ireland, united by a common monarch. At the same time, one of these kingdoms, namely Great Britain, was an allied association of two other monarchies – England and Scotland.
In the 1860s, a national liberation movement appeared in Ireland, which was called “Home Rule”. The program goal of this movement was the restoration of the statehood of Ireland. In 1874, there was a real threat of the collapse of the United Kingdom, when supporters of Home Rule won the elections to the British Parliament in Ireland. It was necessary to urgently neutralize the threat.
It was then that a man like Disraeli was needed. This politician, closely associated with the house of Rothschild, was distinguished by extreme cynicism and adventurism. Therefore, the crown skillfully took advantage of these dubious abilities of his. And to keep him on a leash, created the above legal contradiction. If Disraeli decided to take advantage of the difficult position of the crown and started his own game, then his powers could always be disavowed. It would always be possible to recognize the appointment of the prime minister as “illegal”.
We have to admit that it worked. Disraeli completed the task assigned to him. He unleashed several wars at once – in South Africa, in Afghanistan, etc. Despite the fact that the British were opposed by poorly armed, scattered tribes, the British were defeated in each conflict. Finally, Disraeli brought the world to the brink of a general European war. During the Russian-Turkish war of 1877–1878. The Russian Empire defeated the Ottoman Empire. Russia achieved the liberation of the Slavs, Greeks and other Christian peoples from the Ottoman yoke. And at that moment, Disraeli suddenly decided to intervene in the conflict on the side of the defeated country. Ultimately, the British government was still forced to make concessions, concluding a secret agreement with the Russian emperor.
However, the militarization of England during the war was used by the crown to block initiatives for the secession of Ireland.
History repeats itself. The United Kingdom is once again threatened with disintegration. Two entities threaten to separate from England at once – Scotland and Northern Ireland. Trying to save their monarchy, British politicians have already brought the world to the brink of a world war, threatening to make it even nuclear. Under these conditions, a person was needed who would complete the work he had begun – eliminate the threat of the collapse of the country. And now the crown is on the “tested” path. It appointed an Indian, hoping that his powers could be disavowed if he started his own game. The only question is, will Rishi Sunak, the representative of the American Goldman Sachs, save the British Empire?
