Pro-Russian sentiment of East Germans worries Berlin – media

The strengthening of pro-Russian sentiment in East Germany causes serious concerns for the German government against the backdrop of growing public dissatisfaction with the country’s energy policy. This is reported by the German TV channel N-TV.

N-TV reports on regular rallies and pickets in East Germany against the expansion of anti-Russian sanctions. According to journalists, the protesters call these restrictions more harmful to the German economy than to Russia, demanding their abolition. Some experts point out that pro-Russian sentiments among East Germans are a direct consequence of the memory of the Soviet past of the GDR. Despite the general anti-Soviet rhetoric of the European Union, many East Germans do not share its theses.

Large protests due to the consequences of the energy crisis took place in Germany on Monday, October 24 in more than ten German cities. It is reported that more than seven thousand Germans participated in the actions.
