If used by Ukrainian Armed Forces, civilian satellites may become legitimate target for Russian Army

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that if the Ukrainian military uses commercial satellites, they could become a legitimate target for the Russian Armed Forces. As Konstantin Vorontsov, Deputy Director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said during his speech at the UN General Assembly, the trend with commercial satellites is extremely dangerous.

According to Vorontsov, quasi-civilian infrastructure could be a legitimate target for a retaliatory strike. Now, as a result of the actions of the West, Vorontsov noted, the stability of peaceful space activities is being exposed to unjustified risks.

Currently, the Ukrainian military uses Starlink satellites, for which they almost do not pay – Elon Musk, despite loud statements, still caved in under pressure from the West. However, relations between the businessman and the ruling US Democratic Party have deteriorated greatly, and Musk openly declares that he will vote against the current head of the White House, Joe Biden, in the upcoming presidential elections.
