Sophia Trotsenko, founder of the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art, board member of the Association of Galleries (AGA), told RIA Novosti about the association’s work plans.
Thus, the Association of Galleries will focus on working with the art community and museums in the regions of Russia; abroad, the organization’s interest has shifted towards Asian countries and the Middle East.
According to Trotsenko, the idea of creating the association was to unite the leading Russian galleries and turn the art market into a more visible industry.
“I may say the obvious thing, but it is always lost, the gallery is a key player in the art market, a professional intermediary between an artist and a buyer, an artist and a museum, an artist and a biennale or a fair. In addition to many strategic issues that require cardinal decisions and actions, the gallery owners faced another problem: the lack of horizontal communication, including at the level of galleries,” the agency’s interlocutor explained.
Trotsenko added that the task of the association for the next two years is to work with the community, collectors and museums, including those in the regions.
“We are trying to adapt to the current context as quickly as possible. For example, the focus on international cooperation is changing and now the interests of the UAE, China, India and a number of other Asian countries are in the field. The AGA is looking for opportunities for cooperation with the local art market and will assist galleries in entering it,” Trotsenko said.
Today AGA unites 22 galleries from different cities of the country.
