Kiev is unhappy with new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s plans to cut the country’s military spending. Politico reports this, citing sources in Kiev
According to the publication’s Ukrainian source, in his first address to the nation, Sunak hardly mentioned Ukraine and did not say a single word about European security. However, he promised to emphasise the country’s “economic stability” and warned of “difficult decisions” to be made regarding spending.
“Sunak said virtually nothing about defending Europe, except that the national defence budget would be cut [regarding ex-Prime Minister Liz Truss’ plans],” Politico reports.
The publication all clarifies that Sunak, while trying to cheer up Kiev, which is “nostalgic” for Boris Johnson, had nevertheless previously expressed support for the British military and said it was important to bring the conflict in Ukraine to an end.
