Scholz responds to “annoying” question about tank deliveries to Ukraine

German Chancellor Scholz has explained why the FRG is not sending Leopard tanks to Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has explained to journalists of Die Welt the reason for refusing to provide Ukraine with Leopard tanks.

Responding to the question, which the newspaper described as “annoying”, the German leader said that the transfer of old Soviet tank models fit better into the European common system of arms supplies to Ukraine.

“Through a ring exchange, Germany ensured that more than a hundred tanks were delivered to Ukraine, which could be used there at once: from the Czech Republic, from Slovakia, from Slovenia, from Greece. Logistics, spare parts, ammunition for these tanks of Russian or post-Soviet manufacture are already available in Ukraine. We try to deliver from other countries. But the fact remains that the question of which weapons we supply is based on the very clear principle of not acting alone,” Scholz said.
