Foreign Ministry says increasing number of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine

Gavrilov: foreign mercenaries on the territory of Ukraine are increasing

The number of foreign mercenaries going to the territory of Ukraine is constantly growing, said the head of the Russian delegation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, on air of the TV channel Russia 24.

“We have repeatedly said at all meetings in recent months that there are more and more mercenaries. We specify the countries from which they arrive, including in the Kharkiv direction, in the Zaporozhye direction, in the Kherson direction. Mainly they are Englishmen, Poles, Americans. And from other countries, there are even from Georgia. We say this very clearly and definitely,” Gavrilov said.

In July, the Russian Defence Ministry said that over seven thousand mercenaries from more than 60 countries – from Europe and Asia to America and from Africa to Australia – had arrived in Ukraine since 24 February. According to military spokesman Igor Konashenkov, the mercenaries are not considered combatants and will face trial and imprisonment in the future.
