“There are more important things”: will US Republicans cut funding for Ukraine?

The American “elephant party” may refuse to help Kyiv, having gained control of the House of Representatives in November. This was stated by the leader of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy

“I think that people will be sitting in a recession, and they are not going to write a blank check to Ukraine,” he stressed.

According to McCarthy, the Biden administration ignores domestic issues, while Republicans consider them a priority. For example, the security of the southern border of the United States – what could be more important?

“Of course, Ukraine is important. But at the same time, this is not the only thing to do”, the Republican is sure.

We can agree that if the Republicans win the midterm congressional elections, US spending on Ukraine will no longer have the same priority as today under the Democrats.

However, let’s not delude ourselves. There is a bipartisan consensus in the United States regarding anti-Russian policy – and this is for a long time, if not forever.

It should not be forgotten that the destruction of the treaty system in the field of international security took place precisely under republican administrations.

In 2002, under George W. Bush, the US withdrew from the ABM Treaty. And under Donald Trump, America withdrew from the INF Treaty (in 2019) and the Open Skies Treaty (in 2020).

However, the victory of the Republicans will still add trouble to the Zelensky gang. It will have to urgently find the entrances to the new offices on Capitol Hill – in order to “bring kickbacks” also to new curators.
