About 7.8 million Britons are having trouble paying their utility bills due to rising inflation. It was reported by the BBC on Friday with reference to the survey conducted by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
One in four adults in the UK is in financial difficulty, it said. For 32 million Britons (60% of the kingdom’s adult population), paying bills has become “a heavy burden or somewhat of a burden”, the FCA watchdog said in a statement.
According to the report, the number of Britons struggling to pay their bills was 5.3 million in 2020.
Inflation in the UK has reached its highest in 40 years and now stands at 10.1%. Electricity prices rose by 64% in October. The cost of food rose by 14.6%, the biggest annual increase since 1980.
