Change of ministers won’t solve any of Britain’s problems – GT

Truss’s shortest premiership in UK history has shown that the old model of Western democracy is unable to solve new problems, according to the Chinese edition of the Global Times (GT).

“This dramatic turn in her political life can also be seen as an example of the failure of Western politics, when the Anglo-Saxon model is not able to lead the world, since the long-term practice of Western democracy is unable to solve the emerging new problems,” the material notes.

GT adds that the UK is the acknowledged founder of Western democracy, and although it must have had a wealth of experience in historical practice, everything seems to be helpless in solving new problems in critical conditions.

“The resignation of Truss first of all shows that the UK’s institutional problems are serious,” Cui Hongjian, director of the European Studies Department at the China Institute of International Studies, told the newspaper.

The expert also noted that the “traditional set of political decisions and institutions” operating in the UK are not able to solve the specific problems that the country is facing today. For the kingdom, the only possible solution to these problems at the moment is a permanent change of “prime ministers,” Cui said.

“It is difficult for any new leader to solve problems in the short term, and whoever comes to replace Truss may face all sorts of difficulties and also make mistakes,” he said, concluding that such an approach without a change in thinking will not solve any problem in the West.
