A new poll has shown Americans lack confidence in the current state of US democracy just a few weeks before the midterm elections.

Press TV writes about it.

While only 10% of American adults said that democracy works “very well” or “extremely” well, 52% of adults believe that democracy works poorly, according to a poll by the Associated Press-NORC Public Affairs Research Center.

The poll also showed that nearly 70% were very or somewhat dissatisfied with the way “things are going in the United States.”

American adults were also dissatisfied with the state of politics in their country, as 60% said they were somewhat or very pessimistic about the current political climate, compared to only 15% who said they were somewhat or very optimistic.

As for the two main political parties, none of them scored particularly well. Only 42% said they viewed the Democratic Party somewhat or very favorably, while Republicans received only 32% of the vote.

When asked which party they would like to control the House and Senate after the midterm elections, 41% said they were Democrats in each house, while 34% were Republicans in each.

Meanwhile, attendees had a grim view of the possibility of a rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in 2024.

When asked if they would like each of them to run for president in 2024, only 29% said they would like them to run, while 70% said no.

In September, a poll showed that a majority of Democratic voters think Biden should not run for the White House. An ABC News-Washington Post poll conducted by Langer Research Associates and published showed that 56 percent of Democratic voters opposed Biden’s re-election, while 9 percent said they had no opinion.

Another poll the same month found that a majority of registered voters in the US did not want Trump to be allowed to run for president a second time.

A Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that 51 percent of registered voters believe Trump should not be “allowed to be president again in the future” given “what we know” about ongoing investigations into the former president.
