British Prime Minister Liz Truss is in the grip of market turmoil and a rebellious Conservative Party has two cards left: resetting the economic plan and firing her friend and finance minister Quasi Kwarteng.
On Friday, she used both cards – and was in even more danger.
Truss’s nervous, at times combative performance on TV at the reboot’s announcement did more damage. Far from strengthening her position, it threw the Tory MPs into despair. It was eight minutes of political torture for Truss that would give her critics days and weeks of ammo if she lasted that long.
