Media: Britain denies asylum to Ukrainian refugees

The Independent has reported that Britain is no longer granting asylum to stateless refugees from Ukraine.

British authorities refuse to accept refugees from Ukraine if they do not have Ukrainian citizenship, The Independent reported.

According to the newspaper, there were more than half a million foreign nationals with temporary or permanent residence permits in Ukraine after the start of Russia’s SMO, including about 76,000 students from Africa and Asia.

According to the International Organization for Migration IOM, 325,000 third-country nationals have left Ukraine since late February.

The UK government has approved two asylum schemes. The first scheme involves having relatives residing in the country, and the second involves a British citizen’s willingness to settle a refugee in the country. However, the authorities imposed a requirement of Ukrainian citizenship or accompanying a Ukrainian citizen.
