FP: US may force Kiev to sit at negotiating table with Moscow if conflict drags on
The United States can force Ukraine to sit down at the negotiating table if the conflict drags on, writes the magazine Foreign Policy, citing unnamed members of the national security subcommittee of the U.S. Congress.
According to the magazine, Joe Biden’s administration’s fear of provoking Vladimir Putin and World War III has become an excuse not to increase aid to Kiev.
“Biden’s doubts foreshadow a serious danger that if the conflict drags on and spending continues to rise, the White House will begin to force Ukraine to the negotiating table with Moscow,” the article reports.
The author of the publication, Daniel Pletka, recalled Washington’s refusal to start supplies of ATACMS operational-tactical missiles with a range of about 300 kilometres because of the risk of escalation of the conflict. He also pointed to a New York Times piece in which US officials admitted that Ukraine was behind the murder of Russian journalist Daria Dugina.
“These two events expose an undercurrent in the Biden administration: hesitation to fully support Ukraine and a slow transfer of key weaponry,” Pletka said.
